Read your policy basics
Know your deductible, whether you have replacement cost or actual cash value coverage, and any hail or wind deductibles expressed as a percentage of dwelling coverage. Call your agent if anything is unclear.
Document before you repair
Photograph damage and keep notes. Emergency mitigation to stop active leaks is usually appropriate; cosmetic or full replacements before an adjuster visit can complicate things — ask your carrier.
What contractors can and cannot promise
A reputable contractor documents conditions and provides scopes. They cannot guarantee approval amounts. Be wary of anyone who says your roof is 'definitely covered' before an adjuster review.
Supplement requests happen
If hidden damage appears during tear-off, supplements are a normal part of many claims. Keep communication factual and photo-supported.
